  1. aquila Says:

Kaku is pompous … NEED MOAR ALEX FILIPPENKO!!!!!

  2. ben Says:

agreed need more of the smiley guy ^.^

  3. Nate Says:

I agree on the book thing. Physics of the Impossible is a great book!

  4. Rachel Says:

Seems more like a cocky professor. Do not like him one bit.

  5. Ramón Raquello Says:

    1) In 15 seconds how can he "seem" anything enough for you to "not like him one bit"? (He insists upon himself?) 2) Don't confuse "confident" with "cocky." Most profs know their stuff, and those who have lots of teaching experience project that confidence. Also, he's not a lefty sociology dude. So, I mean, how can you be "cocky" about physics or math? For most undergrads, it is what it is. And 3) if the guy has a contract with National Geographic Science Channel (or whatever) to do a zillion one-hour shows, I would think he's probably got the most on-camera experience of any of the profs here. So, yeah, he's got every reason to appear confident.

  6. Wow Says:

dang so hes the science channel guy! i didn't know he taught?

  7. oreomon Says:

Doesn't seem cocky to me. More like confident. I'll love to take a class with him.

  8. rerere Says:

This guy's a genius, his ideas will lead us to prosperity! :D

  9. baren beasle Says:

that f****ng video pisses me off. every f****n 10 seconds is another " DUN! DUN! DUUUN!!!" guitar rift that is annoying as hell. why doesn't the video just play straight through!!??? damn!

  10. James Says:

I agree with your main point, but also I must admit that I am amused by the hypocrisy of your post.

  11. ironic Says:

his post is ironic on purpose

  12. Ramón Raquello Says:

Students in grades pre-K through 12th are treated as delicate flowers, egos to be gently nurtured, never upset. Then, they arrive in college and say things like, "1 + 1 = 3," "America has the best healthcare system in the world," and "Mosquitoes carry AIDS"–always remembering to add the key phrase, "but that's MY opinion." Somehow, since they're taught that everyone is entitled to his opinion, they think they can make unsubstantiated claims. This opinion-entitlement leads to creationism, Holocaust denial, and very stupid politics.

Kids, don't feel insulted if Prof. Kaku calls your statement idiotic. Sometimes it just is. For future reference, here is a statement of opinion: "The best flavor of ice cream is chocolate." But that's MY opinion.

  13. Ramón Raquello Says:

It is my humble opinion that hypocrisy is not irony. But I'm just sayin'.

  14. Guest1010 Says:

I agree. He wrote a Best-selling book too? That alone was enough to convince me.

  15. James Says:

No, i'm not talking about the 2nd paragraph, but the first paragraph, which is alone hypocritical (and ironic, though unintentionally). So I am not referring to the whole "MY opinion" thing at the end.

And to Ramon, yes, hypocrisy and irony are two different things, but something can be both hypocritical and ironic.

  16. Johnny Boa Says:

Agree with Baren Beasle, that guitar rift every 10 seconds just kills the purpose of the video!!! I could not stand to watch half of the video! Someone in corporate, please, get a clue that the repetitive guitar rift is royally annoying!!!!!

  17. City College student Says:

I go to City College and see this guy walking around campus every once in a while! I've always been proud of my school, and he is one of the reasons!

  18. Mike Says:

Do you have any idea how hypocritical you sound? Until you can disprove it, you're damn right "opinion-entitlement can lead to creationism". If you can read books, I suggest you try some of Kaku's work and ponder many of the valid implications given in terms of creationist theory. Additionally, it is idiotic to think that someone could have "very stupid politics," simply because they disagree with you. In my opinion, you did a pretty crappy job of trying to sound like you know everything.

  19. Ramón Raquello Says:

    WtF??? LOLz!!!

  20. blah Says:

only reason people like him is because he's on TV

  21. Manuel Says:

I don't mind a professor who has a big ego as long as I can learn something good from him/her. It's the ones with a big ego and nothing interesting to teach that I mind.

  22. CCNY Classique Chic Says:

He's fabulous–go see him at one of his public lectures at the Graduate Center. He's also totally hot, and look at how old he is! You're stupid adolescents and shouldn't even be privvy to being in his class. Go sink yourselves into big bunches of black holes out in space. You're useful for little more than spare parts and stem cells for genetic engineering. Ego my ass. Poo on you all!

  23. Erik Says:

To put very stupid politics and Holocaust denial in the same category as creationism is flawed and an opinion entitlement in itself. The rest, OK, but to throw God under that category is an opinion that you are inserting for a selfish reason to attack those of us who believe in God.

  24. Ramón Raquello Says:

Let me explain: We so-called intellectuals are coming off a pretty bad eight years of "stupid ruling the roost," not to mention the continuing actions and sayings of many, including a certain former governor and VP candidate. So forgive me for the "very stupid politics" line. I'm still a bit raw.

Next, I'm not calling into question a belief in God per se. (That's an opinion.) I'm criticizing as unscientific the use of God as a kind of bottom-line rejoinder in matters factual and situations empirical. I have no problem with the opinion, "God loved Michael Jackson's singing so much that he had to take him to Heaven,"* but that ain't factual and it ain't science. It's sentiment. If it won't stand up in a court of law, it certainly won't stand up in the lab.

Many people, you among them, can't distinguish opinion from fact.

*[Jackson died because he had too many drugs depressing his breathing and heart rate in his system (or whatever).]

  25. Kenny4842 Says:

I would love to have him as a teacher, too bad I live so far away. He doesnt seem cocky to me, but I guess it I would have to take his class. The fact that he took the time to comment back says to me that hes not as bad as everyone says. Seems like a lot of freshmen comments to me, we get a lot of those at my school as well. In fact one of the best professors I have had didnt get a good review on RMP. Anyway, I'll be buying his book and maybe one day I can meet him :)

  26. Andre Says:

Those that believe in god are morons. But hey, that's just my opinion.

  27. Cockoo Says:

guys a clown, plain and simple, even with being on tv I bet he has problems meeting women

  28. Ramón Raquello Says:

It seems to me that clowns have very active social lives. Also don't try to denegrate clowns by comparing them to theoretical physicists. Have you ever heard of "Silly String theory"?

Furthermore, I agree with you: a man's goal in life should be to meet as many women as he can. Cockoo, you probably can't wait to get that job as a guard at a women's penitentary. "Eeehah! Valley State Prison, here I come!"

  29. Mykk Says:

The word is "riff." It's a guitar "riff."

  30. Daaz Says:

I agree. Why am i being subjected to the same riff. i think he talks for a total of 40 seconds, the rest is all filler. Kaku has lots of good stuff to say, but when he is CONSTANTLY INTERRUPTED by uneeded… argh, ARGH I CANT EVEN FINISH TYPING THIS IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN OH MY GOD. AAAGHHHHH

  31. farouq Says:

LOL, this guitar riff is so annoying!

  32. Jon Says:

I was scanning the comments to see if anybody thought this. Thank you.

Why the hell DO they do this? I don't get it.

  33. unnamed teacher Says:

Kaku is a smart guy. If he thinks you're stupid, maybe you are.

  34. Guest Says:

COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME….I AM SO FED UP WITH THOSE DAMN GUITAR RIFFS…like the man has somethin good to say…then DUN! DUN! DUUNNN!!! EVERY EFFIN 10 SECONDS! THIS WEBSITE SUNK TO A NEW LOW…

  35. Guest Says:

Agreed. The riffs slaughtered this video. That being said, I am a fan of Kaku! He seems like an effin awesome teacher…but then again I've always enjoyed sarcastic, "anything goes" type of professors. They make the classroom entertaining. Whether you hate him or love him, you still listen to him…and that to me, is the sign of a great teacher.

  36. Tarek Says:

He who doesn't believe in God is ignorant and yeah God is always capitalized moron!

  37. tarek Says:

s*** the only negative I saw from him is that he shakes his head too much when he speaks, and that bugs the s*** out of me.

  38. Ramón Raquello Says:

. . . then you don't understand the meaning of the word "hypocrisy."
For future reference, here is a statement of hypocrisy: "People who comment on blogs are wasting their time."

Also, since you write that I was "unintentionally" ironic, I know you're not a student of literature or critical theory. The reader knows nothing about an author's intention.

  39. Loool Says:

I just saw this guy on science channel LULZ

  40. mikeylikesit Says:

he looks like a japanese bill mahr

  41. oryall Says:

man! I want him as a professor!

  42. Alex Says:

No he's actually an acclaimed theoretical physicist. He also works to captivate the minds of people who spend too much time watching TV and not reading books.

  43. Guest Says:

Annoying ass guitar intro does NOT need to come on after every comment

  44. INCREDIBLE Says:

    I AGREE… THAT'S DUMB AS HELL

  45. Left to chance » Striking Back or Striking Out? Says:

[...] as more transparent does little to improve the status quo. For samples, see the video of an physics professor or of a psychology professor. Although their one-way exchanges with students are certainly civil [...]

  46. Ramón Raquello Says:

Someone once told me this, attributed to Alfred Stieglitz: "The problem with the American people is that they think something is better than nothing." I don't know if Stieglitz said it, but it's sure true of this site.

A: How can people bear the silence between the profs' clips? We're MTV.
B: Let's just fill the spaces with the a lick we can buy for a few bucks from KillerTracks. Everyone will be happy that there's no silence, and we'll stay way under budget.
A: Yeah. I remember the 90s, when "silence = death."
    B: True that.

  47. fuck_mtv Says:

The editing on this is pure shit. It's 3 minutes of a repeated guitar riff and 2 minutes of his comments.

  48. angel8pa Says:

DUN!DUNDUNN!!! OMG! DUN!DUNDUNN!!! How can you concentrate… DUNDUNDUNN!! On what he is even saying… DUNDUNDUNN!! It is so DUNDUNDUNN!! Irritating…DUNDUNDUNNDAAAAAAA!! LOL

The comments on the guitar riff made me laugh the most…DUNDUNDUNNDAAA!!!

  49. guest Says:

lost respect for him for taking the time to appear on such a juvenile website. seeing his picture while hearing that damn guitar riff and getaway mobile sound effect makes it look like a college science professor is staring on "cops" on tv.
p.s. for the record and for those who care; its not a riff, its a fill. a riff is a repeated progression, like a chorus, or 'wallpaper music'. a fill is just that; 'bumper music'. Oddly riffs generally are more annoying then fills, especially when you pay attention to them. The genius behind ratemyprofessors accomplishes both, employing the fill to act like a riff, constantly repeating itself, however its lack of rhythmic isometry (being interupted by the professors comments) makes it awfully annoying anyway. I for one, am more annoyed by the tire screeching sound that follows.

  50. ProfsStrikeBack Says:

    test: ass shit asshole

  51. ProfsStrikeBack Says:

test: asshole you are an ass asshat

  52. Robert F Says:

Nah, he is one of the most intellegent individuals alive. He can be as cocky as he wants cause he can back it up.

  53. Carol Lewis Says:

i have studied many religious thoughts and the more I learn about our universe I am more impressed than ever before. I am not a moran either. the freedom to chose in your understanding of the universe is something to respect. The more we think we know, the more we find out that we knew nothing at all. If you do not like your choices in religion and or science. Sooner or later something new is found and changing all the rules.

  54. briantw Says:

Not a "moran?" It's 'moron,' moron.

  55. briantw Says:

All the complaints about the riff? I was expecting to see really bad editing, but no one seems to have noticed that this a compilation of 9 different video segments with the same intro and outro, so it's not like it was edited to have the riff over and over again.

  56. KLM Shackleford Says:

I like Dr Kaku. I also like Fillipkenko. I be HE is a trip to take a class with, too. Yes, the riffs are annoying, but I can look past them. Egos? I think they'd have to have big egos to get some of the more outlandish theories taken seriously. Remember, not too long ago Black Holes were laughed at, and now are accepted as fact. If they did not have big egos and strong wills, they'd be pushed aside and someone else would take over. Insulting students, not something I'd like to hear, but I am not so insecure that a comment from a teacher is going to ruin my life. I'd just insult him back and tell hem to get back to the teaching that we are paying through the nose for. I'd love to see either Kaku of Fillipenko speak somewhere. I fell in love with astronomy through Carl Sagan's 'Cosmos', and have stayed through Hawking's 'A Brief History of Time' and now 'Physics of the Impossible' and 'Paralell Universe' as well as some of the fascinating shows on TV. Way to go, guys. Thanks for some good times ;)

  57. Ramón Raquello Says:

If you think City College's subsidized public tuition is "paying through the nose," you should try attending nearby Sarah Lawrence or NYU. In these private places you have to "pay through the urethra." Let's hope you have exact change.

  58. guest Says:

Maybe he can talk about guitar riffs on the next Science Fantastic.

  59. hieeeee Says:

dude I saw this guys on Discovery channel or something.. I don't know how he is in person but I think this guy is a brilliant scientist

  60. Annonymous Says:

He's always on the History channel. I love this guy. He's always giving his 2 cents on the most interesting topics on History Channel. Too bad he doesn't teach at my school. Some people say he's tough, but i think it's the tough teachers you'll learn the most from. What's the point of having a teacher who'll tell you the answers and go easy on you? I'd rather have a teacher that people are afraid to take. Professors like him are good for an intellectual challenge. I've had a professor for Government class that at the end of semester there were only 9 of us left. Over 20 dropped out. He was tough as nails but i got through his class with a grade that i am proud of.

  61. guest Says:

    video doesn't work anymore.

  62. Tony Says:

Agreed about the gutar riff, just lose it and show the video, I almost stopped watching because of it. It also doesn't fit in tone – it's just stupid.

  63. reginavictoria Says:

I know that is the most irritating thing about these professor videos…DUN DUN DUN. This guy is famous I see him on the Discovery Channel with another scientist who is pretty famous too. Leave him alone . He is smart and thank goodness he is an educator….take a deep breath…..let it go.
Aspire to be like him, get your doctorate to back up your hateful remarks and maybe you might have something worthy to contribute, to evoke thought or question. Be better than him, then you 'may' be worthy enough to be heard. Who's the loser the one with his degree and notariety or a stupid dip shit slinging mud student wanting everything handed to them on a silver platter. WORK FOR YOUR GRADES!!! Sounds like people are just hating because they aren't smart and just can't make it. Can't stand the heat?

  64. reginavictoria Says:

So, Rif -Raf or un-necessary noise defeats the purpose of listening to the rebuttal. Why don't they let the teacher say all there things/ideas before that guitar-riff…Dun, Dun, Dun.
I think they are the same producers of "the accidental hero", that would have been a good documentary if it didn't jump around all noisy and stuff.
Let MTV know– that stuff gets old and alot of us students aren't on drugs or flying high so we don't need it as a way to 'keep our attention". MTV thinks it will keep the attention of the younger crowd. YOU'RE WRONG; it makes us not want to watch it!!

  65. reginavictoria Says:

I am hot and he would have no problem getting me to date. This is forthe person who said he couldn't get a girl. His mind 'turns me on' and he looks nice to me and I am extremely selective!

  66. Dave Says:

You're an idiot. That's my opinion.

  67. Chris L Says:

In my opinion, I don't think he has a big ego or is pompous. I think he is eager, enthusiastic, and inspiring to have more students study science in order to solve many of our world's problems… diseases, poverty, famine, energy, economy, resources, etc. Scientists are needed to lead a progressive civilization to come up with humanitarian solutions. From the agricultural revolution, to industrial age, and the computer revolution, we need science to improve the living conditions of societies. Having a great mind and ego and being able to think about prosperity is not a bad thing. We need more scientists, artists, leaders, and people who think big. Let's get over name calling professors and use our minds to create a better world for you, your family, your kids, and others around the world who are not as fortunate to get an education.

  68. Rachel Says:

    I like him!

For the whiners; The great thing about professors is that they have office hours where you can make your point clear as day to them one on one if you think that they called you "stupid" unfairly. If you don't have anything to say, then your comment probably was stupid. It happens. Get over it.

  69. Evie Says:

    He's sounds bad ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. Ramm Mashabachie Says:

It's not easy teaching over privileged children.

  71. Somefag Says:

Wow that was a pretty hardcore rebuttal

  72. char Says:

yeah turn those godamn riffs off idiot, Iam glad that teacher called you stupid. This teacher is only here to help stop fukin getting your feelings taken seriously, this is about good grades not getting your feelings hurt jesus. Ignore the feelings and focus on the work, its preparing you for real life when your feelings do get hurt. Its reality, jobs are like that all the time, you gonna quit your job cause someone called you stupid?Boo fukin hoo

  73. char Says:

your lucky to have a teacher who is willing to explain shit, mine doesnt, he expects you to figure it out.

  74. Gordon Freeman Says:

    SCIENCE!

  75. char Says:

what do you mean by science?

  76. peanut Says:

I listen to Opie and Anthony and have heard Michio Kaku on there more than once. I have a lot of respect for him making an appearce on their show and rolling with the jokes and jabs for which those guys are famous. Also, I'm really excited to see his content becoming more main stream. I've never had him as a teacher but I like what I have seen.

  77. Jason Says:

    This dude is a crank.

  78. Guest Says:

HAHAHAAAA god is an IDEA not a NOUN so there is no reason for capitalization. open your mind, it can blossom when it's out of its cage

  79. Jorge Says:

This is definitely the dude whos on the history channel about the space show.

  80. dave Says:

i saw this guy on tv before holy **** lols./

  81. Suzie Says:

I agree with those who said he's not arrogant, or at least not badly so. He's excited about what he's teaching and learning and accomplishing, and what's left to teach, learn, and accomplish, and that's great.

  82. Adam L. Bruce Says:

Is everyone on here a f@#%king physics noob? (pardon mon francaise) He's MICHIO KAKU -as in the author of ALL of those books and one of the fathers of M-theory. His works range from pop like "Physics of the Impossible" to challenging Graduate-Level texts like "Quantum Field Theory: An Introduction." Oh yeah, and he also makes regular television appearances on popular shows like "The Universe" and evidently also some on the discovery channel. So he can have as big of an ego as he wants -I sure as hell can't do ANY of that.

  83. Wacka Says:

I'm sorry you were eaten up by a Loch Ness monster, but that's whaty happens when you don't BELIEVE@@@@@!!!!!!

  84. Life- then death. Says:

Having certainty in a given thing's absence when someone can present no decisive the proof or evidence of its nonexistence, would be a worthless judgement. Remember that scientific theories, however convincing, are still falsifiable.
If atheists are correct, then nothing good or bad will happen after death to any theist or atheist; however, if theists are correct, they could potentially gain a contented afterlife while the athiests would not (placing good deeds aside for the sake of argument).
There's no foolishness is preparing for a possibility, while there is foolishness in not.

  85. Ramón Raquello Says:

Very Pascal-like (Pascaline? 17th-century?) of you. The original statement to which André misplaced his reply relates people (and politicians) placing "creationism" on a par with evolutionary theory. There is no proof of creationism in a scientific sense. "Proof" not "belief" is the concept that must be brought to bear on a scholarly argument.

I believe that JFK was shot by multiple snipers, that Dick Cheney is possessed by a devil, and that for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows.

    Now prove me wrong.

  86. Thomas Masters Says:

u seem like a jackass..see first impression is everything :]

  87. Life- then death. Says:

Pardon me, I hadn't read the original thread you began until now; this one just happened to catch my eye when going down the page.
As for proving another wrong, my intention was to show that neither can stand alone; that creation can play a role with scientific proceses as being the cause of a given law, such as gravity, which would then be the effect, thereby affecting more tangible things like matter. Every thing in existence must have an origin if it could be said to exist, otherwise it would be said to have manifested itself.

  88. Life- then death. Says:

Furthermore, for any proven scientific process said to exist, it must exert some type of evidence on another thing. Then a process in unison with sometype of element(s) can produce a given thing; both are necessary. If both are necessary components for something to be made what causes the initiation? So for a person(process) to build using materials(contingent), the person had to, at some point, come into being, as did the given materials; so for the process to begin exerting itself with the other variables, there had to be a beginning. Now unless there was never a beginning, and small cycles come into being and eventually close ad infinitum, as a part of a larger scheme, how can this be proven when nothing else has been classified as infinite? If they aren't inifinite, then that scheme must as well had a beginning. Such an argument can be carried on, as well, ad infinitum.

  89. Life- then death. Says:

However, if there is one exception, possibly a deity it could explain the inception of these progressivley smaller cycles without stretching the idea of an infinitely existing universe(s)/dimensions. Based upon what has been proven in the whole of scientific observations, nothing can exist wholly on its own with no outside support(s). If a deity could be the exception, it could be possible, as it would serve as the cause and everythingelse would be the effect.
Of course, I could be wrong. Everyone is free to believe whatever they choose, but some may be more logical than others in reaching their conclusions- and they may be right or wrong. At the very least, so long as the mind and intellect is the functioning base for their arguments, utilizing proven facts from the world around them, the mind won't be stagnant.

  90. Life- then death. Says:

I'll take a shot at your last 3 proposals.
If all evidence regarding the Kennedy case has been disclosed, we've been told the truth; if not, they've left the door open for conspiracy: if people are given insufficient information, it is only makes sense that multiple propositions will arise- some far flung and others nearer to the point. So doubt will continue to reign for now.
As for Cheney, though I'd love to believe that, we'd first have demonstrate that possessions can take place; this could possibly be done through double-blind tests regarding personal testamonials. Secondly, if demonic possessions can occur, it would validate aspects of particular religons, though not all of them, nor any of them fully. Then there must be tests done to people whom claim to be possessed, and those who simply make bad/malicious decisions.

  91. Life- then death. Says:

If everytime a drop fell from the sky on to a desert floor, why have there been no recordings, sightings or satellite images of areas where no earth can be seen beneath a sea of petals? If the life- from the first sprout breaking the surface to a collection of rotting stems and petals- haven't been seen in these areas where rain is sure to draw human attention (like Death Valley). I'd love see such a sight, but meteorologists have said that, when measuring precipitation, even the most effective methods often underestimate the total amount in cm/in from 7-20% because of such factors as wind and obstacles. Rain drops also vary in size from .5mm to 5mm, not including the <.5mm drizzle and smaller yet mist.
Given the weather today, nearly all of California should be covered in flowers soon (except SE desert portions). Although such a pour is rare for the city I live in, it is not without precedence; whereas an occasion in which rain consequently bequeathed a true covering of flowers afterwards is, however unfortunately, without precedence. Other factors must surely be present for them to emerge and blossom.

  92. Ramón Raquello Says:

There have been recordings . . . <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODtExxkW0ws” target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODtExxkW0ws . I wish I can spend more time with your response, but I'm no longer a grad student. I work for a living.

  93. logical Says:

Pretty sure he's saying that holocaust denial is an opinion, as is creationism. If you can't bring up reasonably believable truth from what the general populace has experienced (to the limit of their ability, that is their senses) then it's probably not valid in this discussion. Not to hate on creationists, but if someone calls you an idiot for being one, that's their opinion (and mine too, for the record).

  94. Life- then death. Says:

The link didn't work… which one are you referencing for? Anyhow, I enjoy having these types of conversations; I rarely have the opportunity, so its a learning process for me.

  95. Ramón Raquello Says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODtExxkW0ws

I guess you can cut and paste. It's turning out to be a long way to go for a joke. I'm starting to forget why I posted the link . . . . Oh, yeah. I believe . . . there are recordings.

  96. Aluminati Says:

I read his books YEARS before he was on TV. Hyperspace came out years before they put him on TV.

  97. Aluminati Says:

Threatening people with "Poo" isn't classy at all…

  98. slf Says:

LOLOL. wtf is the with the guitar. Who thought that was a good idea. I am dying laughing at how ridiculous that is.

  99. Life- then death. Says:

Haha, I think I get where you are going. I'm trying to say that what contradicts established principles of the universe can exist only within its own world- not this one. Whereas an idea that can exist in congruence with established, universal principles, cannot be disregarded. Though this alone cannot prove existence, it may disprove nonexistence.

  100. J.C. Says:

Love him. We need more like him in academia–and indeed the world. Passion. Vision. Compassion. He cares for the future and youth–inspiring them to think and learn and see the universe differently than they are perhaps accustomed. Indeed, we need to be shaken up and offended from time to time. Complacency leads to an uncaring attitude and self-contentedness, even vanity, and no particularly concern for the long-term future. To have an educator instill the knowledge that what we do today will affect tomorrow, coupled with a rational understanding based on logic and not the post-modern mental illness of relativism, which posits one persons idea is no better than another, is truly empower to separate out the nonsense from the truth,be it physics or anything in life. As Einstein memorably said, “Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity.”

  101. J.C. Says:

Someone got a bad grad on their physics assignment, eh?

  102. Someone Says:

This guy rules. lol. Seriously though, he is too arrogant for a sciences professor (I thought he was a philosophy professor at first).

  103. justin Says:

what a snarky intellectual you are.

  104. Melissa Says:

As a legal student I'd like to point that he is equating direct comments towards him with a catch-all phrases such as we scientists or all scientists, thus directing the problem elsewhere.

  105. Chris Says:

Up to the four minute mark i really didnt know what you guys were talking about – he didnt come off pompous or arrogant (compared to many colege professors). But after that, calling students " stupid " and saying his job is to "invigorate students" is rediculous. Then the comment about "when was the last time you saw a book with the word 'physics' in the title on the NY times best seller list" showed you what kind of twisted guy he is.

  106. andrew Says:

So incredibly wrong… He doesn't know how the world began. Intelligent Design. For those of you haven't heard this phrase, this means that God created the world and everything came from Him! Isn't that AWESOME!!!

  107. alex Says:

This guy is IGNORANT…. So PRIDEFUL…. He still NEEDS to LEARN HUMILITY…. It would do him some GOOD….

  108. Ramón Raquello Says:

"Ignorant" means that he doesn't know, that he's lacking education, and that he's uninformed. He is full of pride, one of the seven deadly sins. His Ph.D. in physics isn't enough. He needs to get an Ed.S. in Biblical Counseling from Bob Jones University. I agree. That would do him good and round out his ejukashun.

  109. Ramón Raquello Says:

Yes. String theory came from Him. Jehovah God created all 44 dimensions in which strings vibrate. All praise be to the LORD of Hosts for creating such a complex world for our great scientists to discover. Amen and Amen.

  110. Ramón Raquello Says:

You are a law student. You might be a legal alien, but you're a law student. We speakers of English would say, "catch-all phrases" not "a catch-all phrases." So make note of that. Oh, I get it. You're a para-legal student. Got it!

  111. Are Says:

Does that little guitar line remind anyone else of guilty gear?

  112. Ramón Raquello Says:

I don't have to act intellectual, you know? To wit: Snark this! [Imagine the accompanying gesture.]

  113. Bill Says:

i think he's quite brutally honest. i didn't find any of this pompous

  114. Bill Says:

actually what's pretty funny is if you check out his professor profile, you don't see any claims of him being condescending, shamelessly plugging himself, cursing etc. before 2005! everything before that is all frickin puppy dogs and rainbows.. haha you can clearly see how the fame went straight to his head in the course of 5 years.

dont get me wrong, the man is still a f@#$%^ genius

  115. Patryk Says:

One person and so many comments. Guess everybody's seen him on the telly.

  116. Darkkflame Says:

Seriously, you used "privvy", spelled privy, incorrectly. Stop calling people stupid when you sit here and blurt out cliche nonsense like an idiot

  117. Chris R Says:

Isn't he the guy that comes on television? I would love to take a class with this man, I find it interesting about what he talks about on tv.

  118. sasha Says:

    the song is fuckiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing annoying

  119. Melissa Says:

LOL. I go to UT Law! Good luck on your future "Raquello".

  120. Cioran Says:

Honestly, I'd love to see this guy lecture. His books are great. CUNY professors honestly aren't that good in many departments and many are nutballs who expressly deny reality, truth and other disfashionable things.

I had to explain the thoroughly debunked Sapir-Whorf hypothesis to one of the lib arts profs the other day. I provided the Kay and Berlin book, explained color discrimination, then explored spectroscopy to refute abject subjectivism, and then clearly outlined how ridiculous it was, even if it were true, which it's not, to apply it to a broader scope than the research indicated. She cut me off and said, "That's an interesting opinion, does anyone else have one?" A young lady recited a line from the course textbook that said everything is culturally constructed and was promptly praised for her slavish idiocy.

Kaku is truly a blessing to the CUNY system and I hope he does a public lecture again soon.

  121. michael Says:

    can you even spell?

  122. bobby Says:

he is completely WRONG. He needs to get CORRECT INFORMATION. When he finally gets accurate information, then he may act cocky, or confident as you say.

  123. Ramón Raquello Says:

Obviously, you are a Harriet Miers Fellow at UT Law. Learn how to punctuate, counselor. However, do this only after you learn American English idioms. (Good luck in the future, "Raquello.")

You do need to know how to read and write even if you're only doing Real Estate and Wills and Estates. Stop watching "Law and Order" reruns and read a good book for once–and I don't mean a law text.

  124. Sam Says:

You must be the village idiot. He's a great professor.

  125. Sci.Hatr Says:

This guy is a dumba** I cant stand Science professors especially the ones that think they know everything. They dont know everything cause if they did they would fix the mess of going green or alternative fuels. Really they all assume and you know wat that does it makes an a** out of you and me for putting them in those positions. Over all i think he deserves the comments he's got.

  126. Morgan Says:

Even atheists know that ideas are nouns. Duh.

  127. Morgan Says:

If someone told you you should believe in a god (such as the Christian God), not because it's the right thing to do, but because you'll personally gain from it in the afterlife by going to heaven, would you think that person is going to heaven? Hell, no. Lots of atheists hate this argument for that very reason. It shows the hypocrisy of so many Christians — not to mention that it makes the Christian God look like an fool.

  128. Nate Says:

wow this guy is the man. someone who can think both scientifically and objectively while also philosophically about his subject must be one hell of a teacher.

  129. MacaulayH Says:

Dude didn't really respond to any of the comments. I mean, he did quote them, but he didn't respond to how they apply to HIM. go hunter!

  130. syntroniks Says:

He says no one knows… But we all know he does – it is secret information!

  131. carnivore Says:

Yes, he is completely wrong because "bobby the anonymous internet guy" "says so.

  132. Cookie Says:

Oh, so true. In reading several professors' ratings, it's clear that while students want to be treated like adults, sometimes they have to be spoken to as children, because they refuse to grow up. 1 + 1 /= 3 in college. Nor can a student get away with stating that plants breathe oxygen and animals always walk on four legs. The number of times we have to say "but…but…it's not about YOUR opinion…." or "…did you really not learn that in middle school science?" is amazing. But don't say any of those things or you'll get terrible ratings as a teacher. WAKE UP students!!

  133. dipchand Says:

This is for the famous professor from city college. WHAT IS TIME? HOW LONG DOES THE PRESENT EXIST?

  134. Hiro Says:

God is not sentiment there is actual evidence in support for creationism. And thinking that evolution is true that just as same as believing because you have to put your trust or faith in the evidence, it does not mean it is entirely true. Even scientists make many assumptions particularly to the geologic column, and they ignore the gaps found within the fossils. How can the earth be billions and millions of years old? Just because of the radiometric techniques say so? No, because it is again based all on assumption and the interpretation. Evidence is all there but it depends on how others interpret the given evidence. How can you describe that some fish were buried alive while enjoying there last meal, or that the fleshy parts were preserved so well. Also fossil graveyard includes ferns, insects, scorpions, and tetrapods buried with jellyfish, mollusks, crustaceans, and fish. They were buried together, meaning global flood. Alas you are free to believe in whatever you want good sir, may you find the real truth. And no I am not delusional or blinded nor irrational. There are plenty of evidences regarding the intelligent designer, aka God.

  135. Ramón Raquello Says:

Your deity is so smart that He actually came up with the idea of evolution for His world. Unfortunately, you, a feeble-minded mortal, are incapable of conceding this to Him, because you yourself can't understand it. With your "global flood" statement, you made Yahweh cry. Get your umbrella.

Hiro, go back to your HR studies at Regent University, watch network TV, and stay away from science.

  136. GGG Says:

this man is a fucking genius, please spare negativity until after you know of his work. no excuse for calling students stupid though, they are just trying to learn

  137. Mike Says:

Creation has a 50-50 chance of being right. We were either created or we were not. Teaching on the Theory of Evolution is full is speculation. Wild speculation mostly. Add outright lies to that. It's time to admit that evolution isn't science. When you bring in other arguments into the discussion of our origin…. philosophy, religion, science, mathematics, common sense, etc. Odds are so heavily in favor of creation that the debate is more or less a waste of time at this point. It's like arguing with a child who belives in Santa Claus. I mean, just look at the theory of evolution (speculation) vs. the facts we know about the second law of thermodynamics. The system we know as the universe underwent a serious change called the "curse", the fall of mankind. Otherwise, evolution and law of entropy would be direct contradictions of each other. God created the world.

  138. Ramón Raquello Says:

Obviously, you've never studied stats or ever read John Allen Paulos' "Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences."

I have another "stat" for you, brother: Either you're retarded, ignorant, both or neither. So there only a one-in-four chance that you're playing with enough marbles to be making any sense. :-)

You are why America is 19th or so in Math in the world and why Palin is taken seriously.

Let's call a truce: I'll stop posting here and you go back to Biblical exegesis.

  139. EAB Says:

He came to ASU to give a lecture. I thought he was pretty kool. idk about wen he teaches in da classroom though xP

  140. Guest Says:

Do we really need the "intro." segment before EACH response…

  141. Hiro Says:

No God never used the idea of evolution, only people speculate this, besides now you are just thinking of theistic evolution my good sir. Calling me feeble minded mortal is not helping you at all. By debasing people I can now see your full intellectual capacity, is this how you get your point across? By mocking and degrading people? Shame the most common problem ever. You are still blinded my friend and it's sad to see. If you cannot even grasp the evidence found in creation then you are just denying what is given in front of you and lying to yourself. I wonder what you really are in person, I assume someone constantly engaging in mockery of people, do you find this fun? Why should I stay away from science, science is an open minded field, supposedly, yet its not anymore. Science is given to explain Gods world yet people twist and bend the rules of science, and dejecting God. Why be the one to reject him Ramon, look around and research how can evolution create such magnificence, how can random chance assemble all of this. Tell me, you take science can't explain everything in essence evolution. Evolution just does not make sense, and no i am not saying science doesn't. There are plenty evidence such as irreducible complexity, the anthropic principle fine tuning of life, even in our biological structures is can be difficult to explain yet scientists dictate evolution assembled it. Just rethink and learn.

  142. Nilsa Says:

Agree….Ought to remember, though, it's a combination of school system/teachers, but also parents, media, etc. (not to justify, just clarify). Regarding chocolate, it is not just your opinion. It is a statement of truth! :-)

  143. Nilsa Says:

My 5 min ago comment was regarding Raquello's 10 wks ago comment (otherwise, it appears too out of context).

  144. Ramón Raquello Says:

Amen, sister (about the chocolate, that is). Chocolate is even God's favorite flavor!

  145. jeff Says:

this video is put together horribly

  146. ggggg Says:

    agreed! That was hella annoying!

  147. BlackHole Says:

The posts on here are funny. I don't think the professor really cares what we think of him. I do believe in God. But not in the Christian or Allah sense. I just believe there is some powerful energy. But as far getting two every animal in a boat and walking on water…no. BUT that's just what I believe…no offense to anyone else…I'm only human and I make mistakes.

  148. M. Ridley Says:

    Professor Kaku is just…EPIC!

We do need more of Alex Filippenko, the Smily Science Guy who even smiles at apocalyptic Scientific Scenarios, no matter how true or bull it is.

  149. Racso Says:

You guys wont understand how good he really is until you take the class for yourself. The man is an absolute genius. Although he is a bit cocky at time, he surely has a reason to be.

  150. Turboplant Says:

This guy is just kinda yapping on about barely tangential subjects. He seems much less gathered than his public work has let us to beleive.

  151. KakuGuru Says:

Kaku is modern theoretical physics and without his insights into string theory, we'd be in the 1950's. He's allowed to be cocky.

  152. Joe Says:

Well, he seems like a pretty nice guy. I don't agree with him about black holes, the origin of time, and all that nonsense (there's no such thing as time, only change). Also, the video is very poorly done. Interspersing his comments with heavy electric guitar has an effect I will only describe as "distracting." Of course, what should I expect from a brainless network like MTV?

  153. john Says:

    Get a hair cut hippie

  154. Ramón Raquello Says:

Right. Isn't it funny how you never have enough free time, but you always have some spare change? I like the combo theoretical-physics-cum-music criticism. Very Renaissance man of you.

Joe, shouldn't you stick to plumbing? I think you might be in way over your head here.

  155. jon Says:

this guy is way too cocky… ive approach him with questions in campus and all i got was an insult, this was years ago before he made it big. Then after he became famous, I still approached him and he just seems like he's in his own world and has no time for anyone. Way too arrogant, you would think he's nice by the way he appears on screen, but he's completely something else.

  156. Julie H. Says:

i want to take his class…but i don't go to his school
    T-T
[I'd take his class for fun..., I don't really need another science course.
O_O I love watching this guy on the science channel...
My major is media studies... >_<' ]

  157. Julie H. Says:

damn i type up an essay but i pressed refresh so blah
but to sum it up in total i agree
damn. lol. i wish you coulda read what i wrote before i pressed refresh lmao

  158. Julie H. Says:

i read the whole thing and i'm left with several questions one including-what's your major?
    lol
anyways. did you ever notice that if you went 10 million light years away from earth and compared the picture of the outer electron cloud of a carbon atom on earth or electron from the inner electron cell, still on earth, that they look the same?
And what if we could go closer? Quarks. what if we could get a closer look at quarks? would it repeat itself again? [the images i mean.]
i love the thought that our universe could be in a quark somewhere in another universe thats in another universe.

i mean it might explain the popping in and out of some protons out there … maybe it's like the lifespan of a universe disappearing? and a new universe = a new proton that appeared out of no where…
    eh..but it's just a thought..

xD I want to walk through walls one day. how cool would that be? going through a wall because the protons disappeared for that same moment you slammed into it, and poof you're on the other side O_O

yes i am just talking nonsense now..
    to share my thoughts…

-i am not atheist, i don't believe in one religion. I believe in all religions, just not all aspects of a specific religion. I'm polytheistic, who believes in Christ and the christian/catholic god! even though they're monotheistic…and heaven is a place where dreams comes true and i'd be happy/content for until I'm ready to try living again, that is after we go into a waiting place for an unknown time to, well…, wait-cause we "sinned" or whatever it may be and we have to just wait, or suffer, for what we did in life. [cheating on a spouse, murder, greed, being selfish...we wait for different times there for our different actions. Some wait less, some wait a lot more. Some suffer, some don't.] Too bad the only thing is that we have to live life the best we can, and experience everything we can here before we go there-or go back there…[whichever]

-yes i'm bored and procrastinating on homework! HAHAHA!! T-T'

  159. Margaret Says:

    So true, on all counts

  160. margaret Says:

Sorry to interject. There are stupid politics. When Politician allocate money for services their constituents don't need just because others (city, county, state) have "it". that's stupid politics.

As for god, that is a faith thing. It is more than an opinion or sentiment. When the Idea of God is referred to as sentiment or opinion it kinda devalues the validity of faith. So people have trouble seeing clearly once their faith has been dismissed. (although that's not what you did)

For all of those arguing in favor of "Creationism": it can be a theory along with the rest. BUT!
To be taught on a mass scale a theory must be empirical (even a lil bit) and God going "poof" and so it is done really isn't that concrete.

  161. Ryan Says:

I completely disagree. He is extremely brilliant and yet he has yet sooo much to learn. For instance, there never was a "big bang". God created the universe less than 15,000 years ago. Sorry Kaku, but you're wrong on this topic.

  162. Guest Says:

This guy ROCKS! He's intelligent and witty, not cocky. I'd take his class in a heartbeat… even though it's physics (bleh).

  163. lol Says:

haha, i am totally agree with you
that was the worst guitar riffing that i have ever heard in my life
    i liked your comment
    good job

  164. Dread Says:

I agree with you except for the creationism bit. If you studied creationism it's a very viable option. By the way, evolution deals with organisms mutating already on earth- not the creation of new ones. Creationism and evolution aren't relative to eachother. I'm sure you're godless and just so smart but insulting peoples faith to their face is just as ignorant and annoying than any other kid saying stupid shit in class. But that's just mine and intelligent people's opinion.

  165. Ramón Raquello Says:

You're correct when you write that creationism and evolution don't relate to each other. I'm not insulting your faith, just your science. And in terms of your intelligence, which of the seven–or eight–do you mean?

  166. James Says:

Nice troll. (If you're serious, I hope you realize your ilk will be the undoing of this country.)

  167. James Says:

It's called a riff. But I agree, it's horrible and irritating.

  168. James Says:

Hey genius, ever wonder how he got on TV in the first place?

    (Hint: because people like him.)

  169. Victoriya Says:

I actually took astronmy with professor Kaku and thought he was great, yes he does say certain things that might offend some but i thought it was funny. Sometime u need a good sense of humor in life

  170. Gloria Says:

And if there's one thing you will do with Kaku, you're going to learn.

Stop being so friggin prissy. The students trying to complain are often American. In my country, something like this wouldn't matter at all, specially if the professor is teaching you something.

With many classes on campus that are boring and you learn something by memorizing quickly before an exam, with Kaku you actually learn things by his lectures, you learn because he engages you when he's talking and you're interested in all the stuff he has to say. Yeah, his methodology might be something not everyone approves, but in the end it works: THE STUDENT LEARNS.

  171. student Says:

hes actually really not bad of a professor, you people shouldnt take his comments directly. he actually really funny.

  172. Sarena Says:

I know that you have no business insulting these students in this manner. I happen to be a 38 yr old student and have learned in life that we can learn from anyone if we only take a moment to shut our own mouths. I think that is advice that you may want to try and Classique Chic you do not seem to be that at all. I strongly recommend that you utilize a dictionary at some point prior to the continued use of your self appointed title.

  173. Sarena Says:

Is all of the banter back and forth required? Really just share your e-mail address and stop cluttering what could be a interesting site with all of your own rantings. Time and place people. This is called rate my professor not go off on personal tangents.

  174. WellRoundedKnowledge Says:

He may know Physics, but he comes off as otherwise completely unintelligent. Listen to how he speaks.

  175. roman Says:

this guy would sneeze and wait for applause!

  176. pam Says:

andre your an iddiot, majority of the world believes in God. the bible has sold more books than ny other in the world!

  177. Aleks Says:

    A SERIOUSLY GOOD book!

  178. steph Says:

LOL seriously, i was thinking the same thing..actually yelled outloud how its so annoying. so every time i knew it was to come up, i just muted the volume.. hahaha

  179. wes Says:

I wish I were privileged enough to have Michio Kaku as my professor. Even if you are taking his class and think he's cocky, the bottom line is: you are privileged! Stop crying about your professors and start asking them questions, may be it's you?

God… Michio Kaku sh*t talking, without actually taking his class. What has society come to? Gain an opinion through experience rather than intuition, and above all have an open mind. I have read several of his books, and not one of them purported an extreme egotism.

  180. Lizzy Says:

i'm a christian and i believe in the big bang, as a physics major there is some evidence you can't refute.

  181. oliver Says:

LMFAO!!!! man i couldnt agree with you any more. this video should have been only 1:30 seconds long…not 5!

  182. SunBadger Says:

What a dip. I just want to be sure you take the halidol anti psychotic. William Blake – Auguries of Innocence
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
    And eternity in an hour.

  183. Confident Says:

I hate to hear stupid shit too. Amen
