Ummmmmmmmmm….ok, how is this striking back? Though this man seems educated and ahem, dare I say, “nerdy”, his comments actually seem to benefit the site. If professors dont like what is said about them, maybe they should take a long look in the mirror and get over themselves. I have been to 3 colleges now, 2 undergrad, now in grad school, and its sad to have to proclaim that some of the smartest people out there are real ********* because of their own self-indulgence in their so called “smarts”. They think because they know a variety of book-style subjects they are better than students and carry a real attitude.
Im from Manhatton but frequently “hang” in Brooklyn, so to these so called snobby professors, spend a week in Brooklyn, see how your uptight attitude changes when you see a few kids get shot, drug deals, etc. Gotta love people that live in their own little world…
I personally think he has a valid point. At my university, there are these students that get wasted instead of going to class, never study and then bash great professors because they do poorly.

Your “tough street” life really doesn’t excuse what is being talked about here. So someone comes from a “tough” part of town they are to be excused for poor academic performance? Maybe you need to experience more of the world beyond the 8 city blocks you grew up in. I’m sure some people who grew up in Iraq or Vietnam have a few “tough” street tales to tell as well…
See there in lies your double standard. You claim a Prof. is self centered, but your “tough” Brooklyn attitude implies that people who don’t live in Brooklyn “know less” than your tougher and oh so superior existence.
Snob- heal thyself!
Thus far I have encountered a couple of proffs whose narcissism is startling. It’s frightening to think that they have any authority over young and naive minds. As an old guy who served in the military and has lived in some of the kinds of neighborhoods you mention, I’m well equipped to handle not only the ivory tower game, but also the “hoods” and “barrios”. I’ve lived in neighborhoods that would make most of the proffs on these pages soil their panties. The proffs who fly off the handle over trivial, negative feedback are really saying, by the nature of their responses, that they can’t handle anything resembling adversity.
This is disturbing, because these are the folks who are paid to do their part in prepping college kids for the world outside the classroom. Is this simply a case of “those who can’t do, teach”? Let us hope and pray not.
Hah! That wasn't what he was saying at all. He was just saying that these people live in their own bubble, which is perfectly fine; it's nice to know not everyone's witnessed a drive by and had to shut up about it so their family doesn't get killed. He's not looking for an excuse, just pointing out a common failing of the smart professors he's had and reflecting that they would be more humble if they could empathize with those who live more miserable lives then they. Nothing more, nothing less. Besides, what does any of this have to do with those poor people in Iraq or Vietnam who have nothing to do with the conversation whom you are using to justify your own, rather unnecessary rant against someone? Personally, I get the feeling you're just misery looking for company.

Yeah, I agree with Mr. Giuliani. This really isn’t a “strick-back” video, more like a comment, or even “kiss-up”, this website.

Why can’t he just be positive? At least he is engaging.

Otis,
Well said.

As a fellow Brooklynite, I concur. Perhaps they need to pay a visit to our world before they preach from their heavenly thrones.
